Job Offer: EU standards for business transparency and sustainability transformation

What does Frank Bold do for business transformation?

At European level, we pushed through the adoption of an EU Directive that introduced the obligation of non-financial reporting - a requirement for large corporations and banks to report on the risks and impacts of their activities, including climate, human rights and corruption. This legislation was the first step in our long-term campaign to improve corporate transparency. The reform of this Directive was presented in 2019 and we strive to make this obligation more precise, enforceable and to ensure that companies publish key information that is necessary for both investors and civil society. To promote these changes, we are coordinating the Alliance for Corporate Transparency, a platform made up of over 20 major non-profit organisations, and collaborating with responsible investors, academia and business leaders. Frank Bold also promotes the debate on the purpose of the corporation, including a comprehensive reform of corporate governance towards a more sustainable model.

We have now become part of EFRAG’s project task-force on European Sustainability Reporting Standards which has been mandated to prepare a proposal for the  first EU standards. And we are looking for a new  colleague to reinforce our team!

How can you use your talent with us?

  • You will carry out analyses and research. You will go through hundreds of pages of methodologies and reports, analyse them, share your conclusions with your colleagues, prepare recommendations and backgrounders for the team and the EFRAG project
  • If you are not acquainted with the relevant topics and agenda so far, you will need to understand and learn how to calculate environmental impacts of a corporation's operations, such as emissions in the supply chain, or how to analyze risks and opportunities in sustainability business planning. Based on this, you will prepare materials and recommendations for methodologies to be prepared or for specific companies.
  • You will join a team of six, working closely with colleagues specialising in expert analytical work, networking, communication, lobbying and advocacy in the corporate transparency and accountability field.

We want you to join us if…

  • You want to participate in a project with global impact. You are interested in the practical implementation of European climate policies and measures in the business environment.
  • You can easily get acquainted with difficult topics and technical terminology.
  • You know how to find relevant information. You can easily work with a large amount of information and data; you are able to sort it and analyse it. Your colleagues can rely on your conclusions.
  • You are happy to work in an international environment and your English is perfect.
  • If you have already dealt with topics such as climate, sustainability, corporate responsibility, reporting or have experience from reporting initiatives such as the Global Reporting Initiative, CDP, CDSB, it will be an advantage.

  • Full-time position (if necessary, we are open to reduced working hours, with the minimum of 32 hours per week).
  • Workplace in Brno, Prague or Brussels (depending on the profile - teleworking from another city/country could be considered).

Inhabitant of Ostrava suffering from lung cancer sues the Ministry of the Environment for air pollution

Yesterday, on 5 November 2018, a lawsuit against the Ministry of the Environment (MoE) on liability for health damages and death of her husband from lung cancer was filed with the District Court in Prague 10. The plaintiff seeks damages for lung cancer, which she has managed to cure, but her husband has succumbed to the illness in October. The cause of the disease is seen in the long-term excessive concentration of air pollutants at their place of residence in Ostrava-Radvanice and in the fact that the MoE failed to provide effective measures to decrease the pollution to legal limit values.
